Why do states like Florida don't allow sales of hearing aids by mail, or why do they require that licensed hearing instruments specialists maintain an actual business address? Why are professionals with my license regulated by the Department of Professional Regulations and The Florida Hearing Aid Association?  All this is done to protect you from the uneducated, inexperienced and untrained flight-by-night salesmen that pander these highly advanced, custom programmed devises from their basements in other states. Bellow you can click on each of the major manufacturers and see for yourself what they have to say about the practice of providing a hearing instrument without the help of a factory trained specialist. Some of these manufacturers are fighting very hard to catch people on the net that say they are authorized to sale their products. They even have encountered hearing aid clones. If you get one of these you may not know it until the first time you have to send it in for repairs. The serial number will not match anything at the manufacturer's and you will be stuck with a very expensive piece of plastic. We have a patient of ours that was about to buy a hearing aid from the net. When he asked where they where he could not get a straight answer. By the time stamp on the e-mails he got he figured they where somewhere in South America.

 

This website is set to give you all the information you need to make intelligent decisions about hearing help. Most of the time, our prices are  the same or better than what you see on the net. We are trained by each of the manufacturers we use on a regular basis. We have direct accounts with them and they know us personally. When you have been in business as long as we have, you create personal relations with your patients and with the manufacturers that help you with solutions to do the best possible job in helping those patients. Hearing instruments are not electronic devises like TV’s or cameras. They have to be fitted specifically to help your very unique hearing loss, life style, and personality. Hearing is subjective. If you ask 10 different people what color is the sky you will get 10 answers stating it is blue. If you present a piece of music to 10 different people and ask their opinion on it, you will get 10 different answers. Furthermore, you can't tell any of them that they are wrong as you do not know how they heard the piece of music. Only you know how you hear things and nobody can claim to adjust a hearing instrument without your input and you can be sure that it can't be done over the mail.

 

Do yourself a favor: Get informed, shop around and ask questions. The couple of bucks you think you might save by buying from God knows who, from God knows where, will inevitably come back later to bite you. When it is time to complain, you will be on your own as you will never see these people fact to face and no one will be able to help you. The state of Florida has no jurisdiction outside the state, and the manufacturers themselves will tell you that you should have gone to a true, authorized, real dispenser as they state on their websites.
